Fully Funded Ph.D. Position in Geotechnical-Stormwater Engineering

Drs. Zorana Mijic and Paul Imhoff are seeking a Ph.D. student for a fully funded position (graduate student researcher) in the Department of Civil, Construction,and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware with a start date in June or September 2025. The research titled Developing Novel Methodology for Assessment of Urban Soil Health will assess the efficacy of organic amendments (biochar/compost) and decompaction methods (pneumatic/hydraulic technologies) to improve urban soil health in the face of
increased stormwater runoff. This will be achieved by coupling advanced site investigations and laboratory experiments with numerical modeling.

Basic Requirements
• Master’s degree in civil engineering or related field
• Solid knowledge of soil mechanics and fluid mechanics
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in collaborative and interdisciplinary
environments

Desired Qualifications
• Solid knowledge of soil chemistry and applied geophysics
• Experience with conducting field investigations and laboratory testing
• Experience with stormwater modeling
• Experience with computational fluid dynamics
• Proficiency in a programming language (e.g., Python)
