Executive Summary
Dr. Luiza Notini is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware. She earned her Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Iowa, after completing her M.Sc. in Sanitation, Environment, and Water Resources and B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil. Following her doctoral studies, Notini expanded her research as a postdoctoral research scientist in the Department of Environmental System Sciences at ETH Zurich.
Notini’s research focuses on the biogeochemical processes influencing iron and trace elements in soils and sediments. She uses Fe stable isotopes and 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy to study iron mineral transformations and their effects on contaminant mobility. With these tools, she aims to bridge the gaps between lab and fieldwork, addressing critical questions at the intersection of iron geochemistry and environmental engineering, particularly in environmental remediation and water quality.
